13-year-old girl molested near Marina, suspect secured

According to police sources, the minor girl from Tirumangalam, a Class 7 student at a city school, had gone to the beach on Wednesday along with another girl from the neighbourhood. When she returned home from the beach, her mother noticed bloodstains on her clothes. Shocked over this, she inquired with the child as to what had happened. The girl told her that a man offering joyrides on horses took her to a secluded place near the beach andmolested her.

The woman immediately approached the Tirumangalam all-women police station and lodged a complaint that her daughter was sexually abused. The officers there forwarded the case to the Marina police station, who in turn referred it to Mylapore all-womenpolice station.

After an inquiry with the girl, the police officers identified the suspect and secured him for further investigation. As the scene of crime falls under Anna Square police station limits, the case is likely to be forwarded to Triplicane all-women police station, sources said, adding that the suspect would be charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and would be remanded in custody on Saturday.
