Pawnbroker arrested for harassment

A 27-year-old married woman developed a relationship with Lalit Chowdhury (23) of West Mambalam when she went to his pawn shop to pledge her jewels. Her husband who came to know about her relationship warned them after which she snapped ties with him.

However, Lalit Chowdhury allegedly continued to harass the woman with videos and photos they took together. Based on the woman’s complaint, the police arrested him under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment (TNPWH) Act and remanded him in judicial custody.

In yet another incident, the Velachery police have arrested a man for threatening his estranged wife at knifepoint. N Khadar Hussain Maraicayar (38) of Cuddalore and Ayisha Naslim (32) of Velachery got married in April this year but separated immediately due to differences. On Wednesday, Khadar visited Ayisha at her house to talk about reconciliation.

However, the argument went out of hand and Khadar allegedly slapped Ayisha and threatened her with a knife. Based on her complaint, he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
