Based on a specific tip-off to the Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police R Ponni, a police team headed by Tiruttani crime inspector Paranthaman raided the shop on Tirupati–Chittoor Highway and seized the Nandi idol weighing 35-kg from there.
During investigation, Noorma told that the four men had asked him to keep the idol safely till Friday and they would collect it after that. The police are now searching for the four men, who came in a car and handed over the idol. However, the police believe that Noorma was also involved in the crime.
The revenue officials took the possession of the idol and they will hand over it to the icon centre, after producing in the court. Meanwhile, police personnel have informed Idol Wing and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to verify the age of the seized idol.
