The accused person was identified as Marimuthu from Tiruvannamalai, a construction worker staying in Ambattur. On Wednesday afternoon, the boy Kumaraguru went shopping along with his father Purushothamaprasad alias Kumaraprasad. The police said Purushothaman went to a nearby Tasmac shop and passed out on the roadside after consuming liquor.

While Kumaraguru was crying near his father, Marimuthu took the boy home saying that he would buy the boy a doll. He took him in an autorickshaw to Vallam and from there, he reached Ambattur on a bus, said police sources. Marimuthu said the police that he bought a teddy bear for the boy and also gave him food.

Marimuthu also claimed that though the boy gave his parents’ contact number, he could not call them as he didn’t have enough balance on his mobile phone. As the boy was crying continuously at the night, Marimuthu left Kumaraguru in Tirumullaivoyal and escaped.

On Thursday morning, local residents found Kumaraguru crying in Tirumullaivoyal near Ambattur. Later, he was handed over to his parents by the Oragadam police.
