“It is a herculean task to negotiate this stretch especially during the peak hours. Motorists usually use the interior roads to avoid the traffic jam and four-wheelers are caught in traffic for at least an hour. There is no other alternative arrangement made to resolve the issue,” said Karthik from Velacherry.

The project director at Traffic and Transportation Forum V Subramani said, “We have no hopes that the works will be completed soon. At least, the government authorities should make alternative arrangements for the sake of motorists. Also, a Corporation-owned stretch abutting 100 Feet Road in Velachery remains incomplete. If this stretch is completed, the bikers will be benefitted.”

He further added that the other alternative arrangement will be to build a Velachery bus terminus near the MRTS Railways station.

An official attached to the Greater Chennai Corporation said, “This road is almost complete except a missing culvert. Soon, work order will be assigned to the contractor to undertake the works.”

The grade separator will ease the traffic moving towards Taramani Road, Tambaram-Velachery Road and Velachery bypass. The ongoing works of the Highways to build a grade separator at the junction started over three years ago. It was estimated to be built at a cost of Rs 108 Crore.

This project was primarily engaged to ease vehicular movements in the stretch. An official attached to the Highways Department said that the works will be expedited and completed before the end ofthis year.
