The Government Public Libraries Differently Abled Employees Association (GPLDAEA) State Branch will go on a strike on February 8 seeking promotion and filling up of vacancies in public libraries across the State.
At a meeting held on Friday, the association passed set of resolutions including demand for regularisation of service of temporary staff and promotion of the differently abled employees in public libraries to grade 3. Highlighting the need to fill up vacancies and upgrade the infrastructure in libraries, they also sought to hike the salaries of employees periodically.
As many as 387 people, employed in various positions in the public libraries like branch libraries, part-time libraries, etc., are part of the association.
While the employees will support and participate in a nation-wide trade union strike on January 8 and 9, they aim to press the demands presented at the meeting on Friday through a strike being planned outside the Directorate of Public Libraries on Tuesday.
