“A new tab named ‘Child Name Inclusion’ on www.chennaicorporation.gov.in has been created to help the parents include child’s name in birth certificates,” D Karthikeyan, Commissioner, Chennai Corporation, said in a statement.

However, he added that the parents should upload their child’s name without mistakes as they cannot make corrections once the name is uploaded.

It is learnt that the civic body had done a trial run for a few weeks in Adyar zone before rolling out the facility. Earlier, parents had to visit concerned zonal offices to include the names in the birth certificates despite the availability of a provision to download the birth certificates from the Corporation website.

“Soon after the babies are born, birth certificates (without names) are being generated using the registration numbers and details given by the hospitals where the babies are born.  As per the new system, the parents should scan their ID proofs such as Aadhar cards, declaration letters requesting the inclusion of names and a copy of online generated birth certificate and upload it on the Chennai Corporation website using ‘Child Name Inclusion’ tab,” an official explained.

On an average, 300 babies are born per day at hospitals in Chennai.
