The State government announced that Pongal gift hampers and Rs 1,000 will be provided to all ration card holders. While CM Edappadi Palaniswami inaugurated the scheme on Saturday, it was announced that the gift hampers and cash would be distributed from Monday at all PDS shops from 8.30 am to 6 pm.

In areas like Perungalathur, Tambaram and Sembakkam, the public was made to wait as there was a delay in withdrawing the cash from the bank.

While the officials said that the distribution will begin at 11 am, people who were waiting from the morning quarreled with the staff. However, the distribution began only after 4 pm.

“The officials failed to inform the residents about the delay, due to which we had to wait for a long time,” said Jaya, a resident of Tambaram.

The officials claimed that the delay will be solved and the distribution will take place smoothly from Tuesday.
