Actor Sakthi rams car into parked vehicle, booked for drunk driving

Actor Sakthi, son of famous film director P Vasu, was on Tuesday booked for drunk driving after he rammed his car into a stationary vehicle under the influence of alcohol in Choolaimedu.

The incident happened around 3 pm on Ilangovadigal street.

Sakthi, who was driving a Tata EcoSport, hit the Maruti Alto car parked on the side of the road, said the police.

When he tried to flee, passers-by chased and surrounded the car. They found out that it was the actor who was behind the wheel and that he was drunk.

He was handed over to the Choolaimedu police. The second car belongs to C Selvanathan (44) of the same locality who runs a grocery store. Based on his complaint, the actor was handed over to the Anna Nagar traffic investigation police.

Sakthi was booked for rash driving and drunk driving. He was released on bail. The police, however, said that his driving licence would be recommended for suspension for six months.

Actor Sakthi, who has acted in movies such as Ninaithale Inikkum, Thottal Poo Malarum and Aattanayagan, was one of the participants in the second edition of Bigg Boss (Tamil). This is the second time a Bigg Boss contestant has been caught for drunk driving (see box).

Similar Incidents

In November last year, choreographer and actor Gayathri Raghuram, also a Bigg Boss contestant, was booked for drunk driving near MRC Nagar, while she later refuted that she was drunk.

Actor Jai was booked for drunk driving thrice in the past and once for using banned exhaust in his car.

In July 2018, actor Manoj, son of director Bharathiraja, was booked for drunk driving during a vehicle check on Sterling Road.
