The deceased, Mubarak Ali (37) of Pudhu Nagar in Avadi, was married to Sabrunisha and the couple has two children. An unidentified vehicle hit him on October 10 a few metres away from his house and he died four days later.

The Poonamallee traffic police inquired Mubarak Ali’s brother Ahmed, who raised a suspicion that it could be a murder. There was a dispute between Mubarak Ali and his wife’s family, he told the police.

After a thorough investigation, the police found out that Sabrunisha’s brothers Sathakathullah and Abdul Rahman murdered Mubarak Ali as he refused to go abroad for work after the duo arranged a job for him in Kuwait.

“Mubarak Ali was a tailor and could not meet the family expenses. Sabrunisha’s brothers Sathakathullah and Abdul Rahman got him a work visa on October 5 and told him that he should leave the country on October 15. However, he refused to accept the offer,” said the police.

On October 10, Sathakathullah and Abdul Rahman confronted Mubarak which led to a fight between them. In the melee, Mubarak had allegedly damaged the windshield of the duo’s car. After this, they hit him with the car and killed him. While the duo absconded after the police started grilling Sabrunisha, the police received information that Sathakathullah had come to visit Sabrunisha on Monday and secured him,” said a senior police officer.

During interrogation, Sathakathullah confessed to the crime. He added that he could not see her sister suffering. While Sathakathullah was arrested on murder charges and remanded in judicial custody, the police have launched a hunt for Abdul Rahman.
