Software engineer arrested for slapping cop
A software engineer was arrested for slapping an Armed Reserve constable after the latter asked him to drive properly on the Manapakkam Main Road on Friday. He was identified as Ganesh (33) from Alapakkam.

The police said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of CB-CID Ashok Kumar was returning home in Manapakkam after visiting Avadi for an official work. The car was driven by Alageshwaran (28), an AR constable. When the car was about to make a turn at the Manapakkam signal around 9.30 pm, a two-wheeler which came in the wrong direction almost hit the vehicle. Alageshwaran stopped the vehicle and asked the motorist to drive properly.
Following this, Ganesh got down from his bike and slapped Alageshwaran, who was in the driver seat. Based on the ADGP’s advice, Alageshwaran filed a complaint with the local police and Ganesh was arrested.
In a separate incident, a police constable, who was knocked by a share autorickshaw near Manali on Friday night, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Karuppasamy (33) was attached to the crime wing of Redhills police station. When he was returning home after work on his two-wheeler on Friday night, a share auto coming from Manali ran amok and hit his vehicle and two other bikes. In the impact, he was thrown off the vehicle. He was rushed to the Stanley Medical College Hospital but died on Saturday. A case has been registered and the share auto driver M Vijay (24) of MMDA was arrested.
