2 women injured as college students fight over ‘route thala’ tag
Two women, including a college student, travelling on an MTC bus bound to Parry’s corner, were injured as two groups of students from Government Arts College in Nandanam and New College clashed at Simpson bus stop on Anna Salai on Tuesday afternoon. Five college students, including three youths aged 17, were nabbed by the police.

The injured was identified as B Santhi (42), a resident of Boag Road in T Nagar, who was travelling from Nandanam to Parry’s corner. A woman student from JBAS college in Teynampet was also injured in the clash. They were travelling on an MTC bus, route number 52-B plying between Hastinapuram and Parry’s corner.
When the bus was stopped at the Simpson bus stop around 2.30 pm, one of the students took a bottle and attacked others. After preliminary inquiry, the police said that the two groups were fighting over the ‘route thala’ (king of the route) tag.
In the melee, Santhi suffered injuries on her head while the college girl was injured on her leg. Santhi was treated as an outpatient in GH. All the students detained by the police were the inmates of government boys’ hostel in Tondiarpet and students of Nandanam Arts College.
