The incident happened around 5 pm when the girl went to the joint commissioner’s office with her relatives. She was in a relationship with Prithiviraj since 2014 when they worked together in an MNC in Porur. However, he ended the relationship with her in November. “She cut her veins with a knife and was rushed to the hospital,” said Krishnamoorthy, her kin.
He added said both their families knew about their relationship. But, Prithiviraj decided to end the relationship in November citing her financial status. Both of them are working in different companies now.
She lodged a complaint with the Kodambakkam police in November. After she approached the police commissionerate, it was forwarded to the Vadapalani all-women police station. A case was registered, but no action was taken as Prithiviraj’s father is politically influential,” Krishnamoorthy said. He also alleged that police delayed action against Prithiviraj to help him get a stay on the FIR registered against him.
“As soon as the woman lodged a complaint, Prithiviraj moved the court seeking anticipatory bail. As it was rejected, we registered an FIR. But he moved the court again and got stay on the FIR for eight weeks on January 1. So, we cannot take any action right now,” said the inspector of Vadapalani All-Women Police Station.
