While Prem (29) and Danveer (28) from Vaniyambadi were arrested, the police have launched a hunt for three other persons. The victim, Arbas (39) of Kaamakodi Nagar in Pallikaranai, has cheated many people of several lakhs after promising them to arrange huge sums of money as loans. He was arrested by the Vellore district crime branch police and came out on bail three months ago.

On Thursday afternoon, five people arrived at Arbas’s house and asked him to pay Rs 50 lakh that he had received from them. As Arbas told them that he could think about returning the money only after the case against him is over, the gang attacked and kidnapped him in a car, said the police.

Later, they demanded Rs 50 lakh from his wife Renuka and also threatened to kill him if she failed to give the money. After his wife filed a complaint with the Pallikaranai police, they traced the kidnappers to the Ariyur village in Vellore. On Sunday, they surrounded a house and rescued Arbas. They arrested two kidnappers from there and searching for three others. Both of them were remanded in judicial custody.
