Two dogs were found dead right outside the house of one Ekambaram at Jerusalem Nagar, while another two were found dead near the house of Mani in the same locality. At TTK Nagar, three dogs were found dead and two more were spotted at Malika Nagar.
Among these was a female dog that had recently given birth to three puppies; the puppies too were dead after drinking their mother’s milk.
All the 12 dogs reportedly died over a span of two days. The residents of Jerusalem Nagar, TTK Nagar and Malika Nagar used to feed them regularly as they were a deterrent for burglars.
Two years ago, a similar incident had taken place. A few days later, burglars looted two houses in the locality, making residents fear that it could happen again this time. Though CCTV cameras were fixed in the locality, residents say it was these dogs that used to raise an alarm when someone from outside entered their neighbourhood.
The animal activists in Tambaram have taken up the issue and are trying to find more information about the incident. Dawn Williams from Blue Cross said that an inquiry would be conducted into the issue.
