Six arrested for selling banned tobacco in city

The police on Saturday arrested six persons for allegedly selling banned tobacco products in two different places.

A Dinesh Kumar (36) of Sathanai and Mohammed Jalaludhin (32) of New Washermanpet were arrested by Tiruvottiyur police and 10 kg jarda tobacco, two mixer grinders and an autorickshaw were seized from them. They were secured during a vehicle check, said the police.

Similarly, the Choolaimedu police arrested P Chandiran (53), I Krishnamoorthy (45), V Loganathan (48) and K Kannan (49) of Choolaimedu for allegedly selling banned tobacco products in the locality. 

As many as 3,000 sachets were seized from them. All six were remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, two men were arrested in Madhavaram and Kumaran Nagar for allegedly selling liquor illegally, and 54 bottles were seized from them. K Varadarajan (24) of Kallakurichi and D Veeraraghavan (64) of West Mambalam were remanded in judicial custody.
