71-yr-old held for slashing roommate’s neck after quarrel
The Ambattur Estate police arrested a 71-year-old man for attacking his 42-year-old roommate with a knife over a monetary dispute. Both the men are separated from their wives and share a room in Mannurpet.

The accused, N Kannan, is from Vellroe and peddles as a broker for machinery while the victim, C Bala, is a construction worker from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the police, a few days ago, Kannan had kept Rs 50,000 in the room which went missing. Since Bala, too had been away since the incident, Kannan was considered him as a suspect. On Wednesday night, when Bala finally returned to the room, drunk, Kannan, who was also drinking alcohol, demanded for his money. Bala refused and it led to an altercation following which Kannan slit Bala’s throat and hands with a kitchen knife.
Bala managed to get himself to a nearby hospital and lodged a complaint against Kannan with the Ambattur Estate police. He is out of danger while the police arrested and remanded Kannan in judicial custody.
Murdered woman identified
Meanwhile, the Koyambedu police, who were investigating the murder of a woman near the vegetable market have identified her as 25-year-old Devi, a resident of Tambaram. They have also identified the person who was seen with her before she was murdered as Guna. Preliminary investigation revealed that Devi was involved in prostitution and Guna was her customer. On Monday, the pair argued at an eatery after which Devi was found murdered with her neck slit. The police are currently hunting for Guna.
Man, father-in-law arrested for cheating Rs 49L loan fraud
The Nolambur police have arrested a 72-year-old man and his son-in-law for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 49 lakh on the pretext of getting their property registered in his name.
The accused have been identified as R Sivaprakasam (72) and A Saravanan (45), residents of Jashwanth Nagar in Mogappair West. The police said that Senthilkumar had allegedly paid Saravanan and Sivaprakasam Rs 49 lakh on loan which the duo could not repay, but in exchange, they promised to register their house in Mogappair to Senthilkumar’s name. When they failed to act on their word, Senthilkumar confronted them on Wednesday and they ended up quarrelling. Senthilkumar then approached the police.
