Scolded by parents, kids flee home, reunited after 5 days

School dropouts G Balaji and G Vidya were angry with their parents Gurumurthy and Selvi, who work as construction labourers, as they often scolded them and would never take them out.

After the siblings went missing on February 22, Gurumurthy searched for them around Kotturpuram and then approached the police the next day. Accordingly, a two-member team was formed under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Sudharshan. “CCTV footage from about 20 places in the locality were retrieved which revealed that the two went to Kottupuram MRTS railway station,” said the Assistant Commissioner.

Their photos were shown to people at auto stands, roadside shops and RPF personnel at MRTS stations between Beach railway station and Velachery. Later, on suspicion that the duo could have boarded the Tiruttani-bound train that crossed Kotturpuram railway station when they reached there, railway police and RPF in Tiruttani were alerted. To the relief of the special team, they were told that two children who were found loitering in Tiruttani and were handed over to the Arakkonam railway police. The kids were later sent to Ranipet home and Vellore girls home respectively as they refused to share details about their parents and hometown.

The special team took the parents with them to the homes and confirmed that the children were indeed Balaji and Vidya. After the police held talks with the children, they agreed to go with their parents. “We have planned to re-admit them in the school. The hard work of head constable Saravanan and constable Parthiban would be communicated to the city police commissioner,” said the Assistant Commissioner.

The Abhiramapuram police on Wednesday traced a Boxer puppy within hours of it going missing with the help of CCTV footage and handed it over to his owner. The police said that the six-month-old puppy went missing from Boat Club Avenue, and the complainant, who did not wish to be named approached the police to trace her ‘son-like’ dog. “The CCTV footage showed the puppy running into a particular location and inquiries revealed a man took him in an autorickshaw. He was traced to Purasawalkam. The dog was rescued and handed over to his owner,” said a police official.
