Gold, US dollars seized at airport
Customs officers at Chennai airport seized gold worth Rs 70 lakh and foreign currency worth Rs 7.5 lakh from three passengers in separate cases on Thursday.

As they were checking the passengers who arrived from Colombo, the officers stopped two passengers from Chennai on suspicion.
When frisked, one of them was found to be carrying two kg of gold in small pieces and chains inside his clothes. The other passenger had hidden 200 gm of gold inside his rectum. The customs seized the gold, togetherweighing about 2.2 kg, worthRs 70 lakh.
In the other case, the officers, while checking the passengers who were about to board the flight to Colombo, found Asif Khan (38) from Chennai carrying US dollars inside his bag. Customs officers seized the currency, worth Rs 7.5 lakh.
All three persons were detained for further inquiry.
