3.2 kg gold seized from air passengers

Customs officials at the Chennai airport on Saturday night seized 3.2 kg gold worth Rs 1 crore from 11 passengers who arrived from Dubai.

The officers intercepted the passengers at the arrival launch of the international terminal. During a body search gold was found concealed in their rectum. The officers recovered the gold and seized them under the Customs Act. Two male passengers, identified as Sabatheesan (36) and Raja Mohamed (38), of Chennai, were arrested for cumulative offences of smuggling of articles worth more than Rs 20 lakh.
