Special police team nabs women snatcher duo from Tiruchy
Two women who allegedly made away with valuables after diverting the attention of women passengers travelling in crowded buses and share auto-rickshaws, and even pedestrians, in Vadapalani were arrested by the city police. Police said that the women, hailing from Tiruchy, have been camping in Chennai after coming here as part of a gang.

The arrested women were identified as arrested Muthammal (29) and Muthumari (37). The duo was allegedly involved in a series of snatchings after diverting the attention of their victims, mostly women.
According to police, their victims include Rukmani (75), a resident of Amman Murugan Nagar in Mangadu, who was relieved off her five sovereign chain while she was traveling from Koyambedu to Vadapalani in a share auto-rickshaw in December. In a more recent case reported on March 1, six sovereign gold chain was stolen from Jeenath (53), a resident of Trustpuram at Kodambakkam, when she was riding on a share auto-rickshaw to CMBT on March 1.
After receiving complaints, a special team was formed to investigate the case. Early on Sunday morning, the police team arrested two of the women, from whom 11 sovereign chain was recovered.
Police said the women were part of a gang that travelled in share auto-rickshaws and buses and stole gold chains. They chose lonely elderly women as targets and diverted their attention before making away with the valuables. The Vadapalani police arrested the duo, who were remanded in judicial custody. Now the special team is on the lookout for their associates said to be camping in the city.
