The police identified the deceased as Devi from Villupuram. She had come to Chennai seeking a job after fighting with her husband. She started working at a cattle farm in Kovilanchery a few weeks back. She was staying at the farm which belongs to Gunasekaran (54).

Gunasekaran told the police that on March 3, a man in mid-thirties came in search of Devi and said he was her husband. He started to stay with Devi and started to work on the same farm.

Subsequently, on March 16, the couple went missing. Assuming that the couple had gone back to their hometown, Gunasekaran had not bothered to lodge a missing complaint. On Wednesday, a foul smell started to emanate from the septic tank and upon opening the tank, Gunasekaran found her body floating .

On information, a police team from the Selaiyur police station arrived at the spot and retrieved the body. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to Chromepet Government Hospital. A case has been registered as the man claiming to be her husband has gone missing.

The police also found that the suspect is not Devi’s husband. He has been identified as Manikandan from Villupuram. Devi, who was married to Murugan, has been living separately for the past two years. Manikandan was Devi’s lover, the police said.
