VIT celebrates University Day to laud achievers and set milestones

VIT Chennai celebrated the University Day on Tuesday. The day was marked to celebrate the accomplishments and was seen as a moment to come together and set milestones.

The event was presided over by Dr G Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor, VIT. In his presidential address he congratulated the students on their remarkable achievements and commended the sincerity and commitment of the faculty as well.


He opined that it was appropriate to invite the US Consul General for University Day celebrations and stated that United States is a leader in higher education.


As for India, it is now the sixth largest economy in the world. While, Viswanathan wanted VIT to be a model institution. He opined that availability, affordability and quality are the three important factors to be taken into consideration in higher education.


The Chief Guest Robert G Burgess, US Consul General, Chennai, in his address commended all the award winners. He said that it delighted him to see so many achievements of very high calibre both from students and professors.


He appreciated the way Founder and Chancellor of VIT Dr G Viswanathan, bridged the gap between cultural and business ties. He applauded him for being the President of Friends of United States, who believed in people to people relationship.


Robert G Burgess pointed out to the students that investing in education would help them face challenges while nothing but solid education would help them face success.


VIT has many tie-ups with the US Consul in way of entrepreneurships, hosting cybersecurity hackathons and organising talks on intellectual property rights.


He asked the students and faculty to make use of scholarships and sponsorships available in the United States.


According to him, he was glad to see VIT focussing on researches because he also hailed from a research-based background. He stated that in the next 10 years’ time, great changes would happen because of engineers and it is their responsibility to groom the nextgeneration.
