The deceased, Akila (21) from Irumbuliyur, was working on a private firm in Pallavaram. On Tuesday night, Santhosh had picked up Akila from work and both of them had gone to Santhosh’s house in Chitlapakkam.

On Wednesday morning, Santhosh rushed Akila to a private hospital at Tambaram with injuries on head. Doctors there declared her brought dead. Following this, Santhosh informed her family that Akila died after slipping and falling on the grill gate.

However, Akila’s relatives were suspicious about his claim, and filed a complaint with the local police. Police sent the body for post-mortem examination and conducted inquiries with Santhosh. Initially Santhosh maintained the same story. But later he confessed that he killed Akila.

After initial probe, police said Santhosh and Akila were close friends and Santhosh was in love with Akila. Recently, Santhosh came to know that she was in a relationship with another person. On Tuesday night, both of them quarrelled. In the heat of the argument, Santhosh attacked Akila with wooden logs and then strangled to death. Police arrested him and remanded in judicial custody.
