3 drunk electricians attack AR constable, held

Three youngsters, who allegedly attacked an Armed Reserve constable near Kathipara flyover on Tuesday night, were arrested on Wednesday.

The arrested were identified as Dhasadaran (23), Thangabalu (26) and Meiyalagan (25). All three hail from Thanduma Nagar in St Thomas Mount and working as electricians. The police said the constable was attacked while he was in uniform.


The victim, Ganesan (28) from Thanduma Nagar, was staying in the police quarters. On Tuesday night, Ganesan was returning home after his duty. When he was near the Kathipara flyover around 10 pm, the three men intercepted him and started a quarrel. According to the police, they were under the influence of alcohol.


They verbally abused Ganesan and also attacked him. When the constable tried to move away from the spot, they took his bike key and pelted stones at him. Ganesan suffered severe injuries and collapsed at the spot. After information from the passers-by, the police went to the spot and took him to the private hospital. The St Thomas Mount police registered a case and after investigation, they arrested Dhasadaran, Thangabalu, and Meiyalagan. All three were remanded in judicial custody. The police are investigating the motive behind the attack.
