DIGI Cop app helps nab juvenile cell phone thief
After tracking a man who checked the details of a stolen mobile phone using the DIGI Cop app, the city police have nabbed a mobile phone thief, a juvenile, and also the man who purchased the phone from him. This is the first reported arrest with help of this mobile phone application.

Rajesh, a techie from Tiruvanmiyur, found an expensive mobile phone for sale on OLX for Rs 4,000 and approached A Syed Ibrahim, who posted the advertisement. As per Rajesh’s request, Ibrahim reached Tiruvanmiyur to hand over the phone. When he entered the phone’s IMEI number on DIGI Cop application installed in his phone, Rajesh found that it was a stolen handset. Following this, he refused to buy the phone.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (Adyar) Shashank Sai received an alert about the IMEI number of a stolen mobile phone being verified and found out that it was stolen from a software engineer’s house in Guindy six months ago. The police officers traced Rajesh and based on the inputs from him, Syed Ibrahim (23) of Velachery was arrested. During interrogation, he revealed that he bought the phone from a 17-year-old boy from his neighbourhood. Guindy police said the minor, who admitted to have stolen the phone, was sent to an observation home. He has already been arrested for a similar offence, added the police.
