For the expansion of the centre, the machinery for the production of sanitary napkins will be brought to the institute this week, while the arrangements have been made to start vermicomposting unit within this week.
“The patients who are undergoing rehabilitation are given industrial therapy to help them acquire social and work skills enabling them to return to the community and be able to earn their living,” IMH Director Dr Poorna Chandrika said.
The institute has also initiated a programme to send the inmates to M S Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation in Madurai for tie and dye workshops.
The patients recovering at the institute are not put under industrial therapy.
They undergo physical training only. However, the inmates moved to rehabilitation undergo industrial training at an exclusive centre that provides training for more than 100 inmates in one shift.
