Two years on, 4 held for stealing chemicals from airport cargo section
Two years after 50 kg of chemicals imported from Singapore was stolen from the Chennai airport cargo section, the police on Sunday said that they have arrested four loaders from the cargo section for the crime. Police suspect that a gang which purchased the chemicals from the suspects had been using it to manufacture performance enhancing drugs illegally.

The arrested loaders were identified as S Kumaran (42) of Nanganallur, J Dinesh (29), T Ravi (54) and J Anson (51), all residents of Alandur. There was one accused, but he died few months ago.
Police said that these suspects had stolen the two tins of the chemicals, each weighing 25 kg, and sold to a group in Tiruvanmiyur. The gang developed the chemical into performance enhancer illegally and sold it among certain section of people.
Recently, the police came to know about the gang indulging in illegal production of such performance enhancing drugs and inquiries revealed that they received raw materials from the loaders working in the Chennai airport. Based on that input, the police conducted inquiries further and zeroed in on the loaders, who were involved in the theft. The chemicals were imported from Singapore by a private pharma company in Chennai.
According to the police, the suspects had confessed to the crime. They are investigating further about the gang that bought the stolen drugs, said sources.
