Due to some fault, the temperature at the mortuary could not be maintained at the required level so as to protect the bodies from decomposing, said hospital dean Dr P Vasanthamani. “It was found out that an entire air conditioning unit had to be replaced. We procured a new unit, the installation work of which is underway. It will take three to four days to complete,” she added.
Due to this, the hospital management shifted four unknown dead bodies stored there to the mortuary at Omandurar government hospital. On Tuesday, four autopsies that were to be done at the KMCH was conducted at the Government Royapettah Hospital, officials said.
Vasanthamani added that the management had informed the police to shift unknown bodies to Omandurar Government Hospital 15 days ago and the maintenance works are pre-planned.
