The RK Nagar police, who were investigating the case, identified the deceased as Moorthy of Patel Nagar in Tondiarpet with the help of the driving licence found in his clothes on Thursday night. Following this, they secured four suspects, Tirumalai, Thuppaki Mohan, Saravanan and Pasupathy of the same locality, after investigation.

The investigation officer said that Moorthy and Tirumalai were history-sheeters and accused in several cases. They wanted to prove who was superior in the locality and this often led to fights between them. Last year, Moorthy was arrested for attempting to murder Tirumalai.

Around 10.30 am on Wednesday, Tirumalai along with three others kidnapped Moorthy in his load auto and took him to an isolated place near Manali. They murdered him by attacking him with weapons and slitting his throat. Later, they bundled the body in a gunny bag and brought it to Tondiarpet. Finally, they disposed it near the IOC diesel shed off Ennore High Road.

After passers-by alerted police, his body was retrieved and sent to Stanley Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. After Moorthy’s wife Kousalya informed the police about his enmity with Tirumalai, the police secured the suspects on Thursday. All of them were remanded in judicial custody.
