The incident happened around 10.40 pm when Uzhavan Express (No.16865) bound for Thanjavur was leaving platform number 4. “Just when the train started to move, the girl, identified as Anmol Sharma, travelling with two others and with reserved tickets of AC coach, tried to board the train,” a police officer said. She was travelling with her father Aswani Kumar.

The moment she slipped and was about to fall into the gap, SV Jose, the RPF constable on platform duty, rushed towards her and pulled her to safety, the officer added.

The video footage retrieved from the CCTV cameras installed in the platform shows the girl struggling to get onto the moving train with a bag in one hand. The footage also clearly shows the constable bringing her back to safety. His act was appreciated by other senior RPF officials.

Following the incident, the guard stopped the train to help the girl and other fellow passengers to board the coach.

This, however, was not the first-time that security personnel rushed to rescue a passenger before they slipped between the moving train and platform. “Passengers should stop trying to board moving trains as it is a threat to life,” a senior railway official said.
