Six-month-old girl dies as bike skids on bypass road

A six-month-old girl child died after a bike on which she was travelling with her parents skidded on Tambaram–Puzhal bypass road on Sunday morning.

While the child Kavin Nakshatra died on the spot with internal head injuries, her parents, S Kannan and Chitra, have been admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital with injuries on their face and hands.


The incident happened when the couple were on their way to Chitra’s parents’ house in Kodungaiyurfor a puja. Kannan, a software engineer and resident of Alapakkam, rode the bike while his wife Chitra, seated as pillion, was holdingthe child.


Near Gangai Nagar in Kallikuppam, the bike suddenly skidded on the bypass road and all three fell on the road. While Kavin Nakshatra started bleeding from her left ear, her parents also sustained injuries. Shocked passers-by rushed the family to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in an ambulance. However, the girl was declared dead on arrival and the doctors said that she suffered internal head injuries. The couple is undergoing treatment.


As the road was busy when the accident took place, the couple escaped with minor injuries, said the police. The Poonamallee traffic investigation police registered a case and further inquiry is on. Police said that there was no other vehicle involved in the accident.
