Gold worth Rs 56L seized from air passengers
Officers from the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs seized gold worth Rs 56 lakh from three passengers who were trying to smuggle it in into the country, on Monday.

When they were checking passengers who arrived at the city airport from Bangkok on Monday morning, they stopped Manaf (31) and Shamsu (39) from Kerala on suspicion. During personal search, the officers found that they had concealed gold inside their rectum in a rubbery form. The officials extracted and seized gold weighing about 870 grams, with an estimated worth of Rs 29 lakh. In the second incident, the Customs intercepted Jabid (33) of Rajampeta in Kadapa who arrived from Kuwait. In his bag, they found three steel mixer jars. On dismantling it, they found gold discs concealed in the bottom portion of the jars. They weighed about 810 grams, worth Rs 27 lakh. The officials seized the gold and arrested him for further inquiry.
