While commencing his sitting for the day by describing the accident, which was caught on camera, as most unfortunate, Justice N Anand Venkatesh said off late the rate of road accidents due to speeding has been on the rise. Also, noting that most of accidents were due to irresponsible and inattentive driving by those behind the wheels, the judge sought to know from Government Advocate Mohamed Riyaz regarding the steps taken by the State government to prevent it.
The judge also sought to know as to why shouldn’t the driving license of those indulging in speeding and irresponsible driving be cancelled. He also sought a report on the steps taken to implement the law that was amended to enhance the sentence for those who caused fatal accidents from two years to 10 years.
However, with the government advocate seeking time to obtain the necessary instructions, Justice Anand Venkatesh directed him to submit a report on June 17 and hinted that he would take suo motu cognisance of the issue based on the report submitted.
