College student fatally knocked down by vehicle

A 20-year-old college student on a two-wheeler died after he was knocked down by a concrete mixer vehicle on Perumbakkam Main Road. The deceased was identified as Ravi of Tiruvalluvar Nagar in Perungudi.

The police said Ravi, a BSc student, was travelling from Sholinganallur to Medvakkam when the mishap happened near Shanthi Nagar junction on Sunday. The youth died on the spot. The St Thomas Mount traffic police have registered a case and are looking for the driver who escaped from the spot immediately after the accident.


The police said that Ravi’s body was shifted to Chromepet GH for autopsy


Meanwhile, an unidentified man was killed in an accident in Kattupalli village near Ennore Port on Sunday. Residents of Kattupalli spotted the body lying by the roadside and alerted the Minjur police.


“The victim appears to be about 35-years-old and does not have any ID on him. While we suspect that he could have been a victim of a hit-and-run, other possibilities cannot be ruled out,” the police said.


The body was sent to Ponneri GH for autopsy and efforts are on to trace his identity.
