When asked about the water situation that the State has been facing, an issue found space in national and even international media, Jayakumar said: “There may be water shortage in the State but there is no scarcity. People should understand the measures taken by the State government under such tough situations.”

He was speaking to the media at T Nagar after paying tribute to poet Kannadasan on his 92nd birth anniversary on Monday.

Claiming that the government was supplying water through tanker lorries at the places that are facing shortage in supply of drinking water, the senior AIADMK leader alleged that the protests held by Opposition parties were politically motivated, staged only to malign the government.

He also condemned DMK treasurer Duraimurugan for his recent comments in which he allegedly opposed the supply of water to Chennai from Vellore, pointing out that it was not proper for the DMK leader, a resident of the city, to take such a stand.
