Rain in city brings down mercury, more expected
It was short and sporadic, but the showers at a few parts of the city, coupled with the movement of the wind as the south west monsoon progressed, brought down the temperature in the city sharply. After hovering over 40 degree Celsius mark – about 4-5 degree above normal – the maximum temperature at the two weather stations here remained at a bearable below 37 degree Celsius.

Chennai
The maximum temperature recorded at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam on Sunday was 36.4 degree Celsius and 36.8 degree Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature was 29.3 degree Celsius and 25.1 degree Celsius respectively.
Meenambkkam also recorded 11.1 mm rainfall on Sunday after the showers it received on Saturday evening. The highest amount of 4 cm rainfall was recorded in the Nilgiris, while Coimbatore and Vellore recorded 3 cm of rainfall each.
This may continue for the next two days, as the weather experts and the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, have predicted light to moderate rainfall in various parts of the city. This is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, too, weathermen said.
Districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, and Tiruvannamalai, and Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to receive rains on Monday.
For next 48 hours, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 37 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius respectively.
