While Mylapore police arrested T Nagamani (30) of Myalpore a day after the murder on June 16 and P Alphonse (49) of Chemmanchery on Monday, Rajesh (30) of Kannagi Nagar, the main accused, surrendered before a magistrate in Salem on Tuesday.
After he was remanded in judicial custody and lodged at Salem central prison, Mylapore police rushed to Salem to take him in custody for interrogation. Rajesh reportedly told the magistrate that he worked as a cable TV operator in Chennai.
The murder took place on June 16 when Dinesh of Pallakumanagar in Mylapore was walking past a petrol bunk. A gang of three men who reached the spot in an autorickshaw attacked him with sharp weapons and sped away. Onlookers rushed him to the hospital where he died within hours without responding to treatment.
Police said that Dinesh had an affair with Rajesh’s wife which led to the attack. As he did not snap the relationship despite warnings, Rajesh alleged hatched the plan and hacked him to death with the help of two friends.
