Though the police had recovered broken bangles of the victim from the house of the suspect, they are trying to get voluntary confession from the suspect. “The girl had samosa stuffed in her mouth. That was also recovered from the house of suspect,” police sources said.
The suspect and his wife are giving contradictory statements to the police and the investigators are expecting him to give a detailed statement about the incident that led to the death of the 4-year-old LKG girl. “We suspect that the woman helped her husband to put the body of the victim back in her house,” police said.
The families of both suspect and victim are related.
The girl’s body was found in a gunny bag in a bucket in the bathroom of her house on Thursday evening. It was found by her mother after she returned with her elder son from the police station, where they had gone to lodge a complaint about the missing girl. Police suspect that the sexual assault could have happened when her mother went to pick the child’s elder brother from tuition centre. The child’s father was away at work.
The victim’s family stayed in a rented house. Her house and the suspect’s residence are on either sides of a wall. Her family stayed in the ground floor of house belonged to the brother of the suspect’s wife. Both the houses have ground and first floors.
The suspect stayed in the ground floor of his building and had rented out his first floor to a youth from north India. His son is married and settled elsewhere.
A relative of the girl who spoke to DT Next said that she was very talkative in nature and the suspect and his wife used to take her to their house to engage her in conversation. The girl’s family had been staying in the house for the last four years.
A couple of neighbours, who were on their routine morning walk expressed shock over the incident and described the ex-serviceman as a soft natured man.
