Celebrating American Independence
To celebrate the Declaration of Independence of the United States (on July 4, 1776), the US Consulate in the city hosted a gathering inviting dignitaries from various walks of life.

Consul General Robert G Burgess played the perfect host and was seen interacting with the guests. The state’s Minister for Tamil Culture, Ma Foi K Pandiarajan, was also present. Apart from the consulate officials, others spotted included author Perumal Murugan, Ashok Amritraj, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali and AK Tareen. Marking the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 Moon mission in 1969, Michele Giovia, draped a saree with the rocket’s model stitched on to it.
