The accused, Imranuddin of Ice House, is the prime accused in the murder of Congress functionary A K Abbas in Royapettah last October. After surrendering before a magistrate in Nagapattinam, he recently came out on bail and threatened G Maqbool Basha of Royapettah, who is into wholesale of chicken, to part with Rs 50 lakh as he had lodged a complaint against him. After Maqbool Basha submitted a petition at city police commissionerate, a special team led by Joint Commissioner R Sudhakar was formed to nab him. A hunt was launched for Imranuddin, who was arrested from his hideout on Tuesday.

Speaking to DT Next, Maqbool Basha said that he lodged the complaint against the history-sheeter in 2017, but after he was arrested in connection with the murder of Abbas, he thought there would no longer be any threat from him. However, after being released on bail, Imranuddin spoke to Maqbool over phone and threatened him that he would eliminate him like he murdered Abbas using his men. Basha submitted the audio recordings of his threats to the Commissioner.
