School students help create wall mural on ICC World Cup

The activities during the programme were aimed at encouraging students to develop life skills through greater participation in arts and sports.

British Council collaborated with Nalanda Way Foundation on a mural project that engaged the students to develop and showcase their artistic side. more than 10 students between the age group 7 years to 12 years participated enthusiastically, assisting the Nalanda Way artists to develop the mural inspired by India-UK’s long-standing relationship and the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup.

The British Council also organised a Cricket quiz for the students, as well as special screening of the award-winning UK dance drama film – Billy Elliot – inspiring the young students to discover their artistic side and pursue their passion.

The day concluded with the prize distribution ceremony by Janaka Pushpanathan, Director South India, British Council, who also spoke to students about their aspirations and ambition in life. Additionally, a photo exhibition was also organised which is open for all till July end.

Janaka Pushpanathan, the director of British Council South India, said, “Art is a powerful medium and can help shape one’s personality and future. The response and participation from young students in this initiative, is a great example of how art and sport can enable the holistic growth of youngsters and provide them with the life skills to become successful. Our libraries in Chennai and across India will continue to be knowledge and cultural centres creating opportunities for India’s youth.”
