Both the videos have been recorded on July 7 around 11 pm after the drivers were let off after being caught for drunk driving. The traffic cops took Rs 3,500 and 2,000 from them as bribe.
In one of the videos, the driver identifies himself as G Srinivasa of Bengaluru. He said his truck was stopped by the traffic police on GNT road when he was coming for Poonamallee and after he was tested positive for alcohol consumption, the police allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000. “I withdrew the cash from a nearby ATM and gave it,” he said.
In another video, S Muraliraja (36) of Tiruvallur said that he had to part with Rs 3,500 as the police tested him positive for drunk driving. However, it is not clear who shot the videos.
When contacted, a higher official said that they did not receive any videos and that they would inquire into the allegations before taking action against the personnel who have been accused.
