30 sovereigns burgled from house in Kundrathur

Unidentified men decamped with 30 sovereigns of jewels from a house near Kundrathur.

The victim, Krishnayyah (40) of Irandam Kattalai, is a private firm employee. He slept on the first floor of his two-storey house on Friday night. When he woke up on Saturday morning, he realised that house has been locked from the outside.


Neighbours broke open the lock and Krishnayyah rushed to the ground floor of the house to find that 30 sovereigns of jewellery has been burgled. Based on his complaint, Kundrathur police registered a case and are investigating. In another incident, the police are on the lookout for intruders who looted 9 sovereigns, silver articles and Rs 7,000 from a house in Tambaram Sanatorium on Saturday.


Shaptharishi (85) of Vedhandam Colony in Tambaram Sanatorium, along with his wife Kamala (82), went to their daughter’s house in Medavakkam a week ago. When they returned on Saturday, they found the front grille gate broken and the valuables missing from the house. Tambaram police have registered a case and are trying to identify the robbers with the help of CCTV footage.
