The deceased was identified as Kingsley Munro from Valayapathi Street in New Perungalathur, staff of a private firm in Nungambakkam. Around 9 pm on Monday, his weekly off-day, Kingsley left home for having a tea at a shop on the service road of the Outer Ring Road.

When he was nearing the site where the new toll booth is to be constructed, Kingsley’s two-wheeler skidded. He fell down and hit his head on the concrete slab of the stormwater drain. Suffering severe injuries to his head, Kingsley died on the spot. A large number of friends and relatives who gathered at the spot entered into an argument with the Somangalam police team.

The protesters charged that the sand meant for the toll plaza construction was unloaded in an unsafe manner. After the recent rains, the sand was spread on to the road, because of which two-wheelers were skidding at the spot.

The protest brought Revenue officials who began removing the sand using earthmovers. Later, around 11 pm, police sent the body for post-mortem examination at Chromepet government hospital and have registered a case. Police also noted that Kingsley could have survived the accident had he used a helmet. Further investigation is on.
