Residents have urged the respective civic bodies to take steps to divert the rainwater to lakes.
Tambaram and its surrounding areas witnessed heavy rain on Thursday night. Residents said just one day's rain has flooded roads in Irumbiliyur, TTK Nagar and Tambaram-Maduravayol Bypass service road. The situation not any better in Sanatorium and Chitlapakkam. The government High School in Chitlapakkam is flooded and Class 10 students who came for a special class had to be sent back.
Meanwhile, the residents complained that the roads are filled with water while they are struggling for drinking water. "The civic body should take the necessary steps to save the rainwater rather than letting it go to waste. Stormwater drains are damaged and clogged in many places," a resident said. Tambaram Municipal Engineer Karupaiah Raja said that the damaged stormwater drains will be repaired soon.
