Earthmover fatally knocks down 80-yr-old

The deceased, R Apoorvam of Pattaravakkam, tried to cross the Ambattur Industrial Estate-Korattur Road when the mishap occurred. After being hit by the earthmover, she was thrown a few metres away and died on the spot, said the police.

The Poonamallee traffic investigation police registered a case and arrested driver Ajith (35) of Arakkonam. Apoorvam’s body was sent to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination and further inquiry is on.

In another incident, a 65-year-old security guard, who was hit by a speeding car in Anna Nagar, succumbed to injuries in the hospital on Saturday. The deceased, Natarajan of TP Chathiram, was working as a security guard on Kannaiyah Street in Aminjikarai. The accident happened on July 21 when Natarajan was returning to the apartment from a nearby tea shop. A speeding car that was driven by Karthik rammed Natarajan, leaving him with grievous injuries. Karthik himself took Natarajan to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and admitted him. On Saturday, Natarajan died without responding to treatment. The Anna Nagar traffic investigation wing police are inquiring the case.
