As part of the project, the hospital is receiving upgradation of burns ward and other new facilities including modular hybrid theatre, nephrology unit, gynaecology unit, general medicine unit and emergency care unit.

The civil works being undertaken by the Public Works Department for the new buildings including new senior resident quarters, dialysis centres, emergency units and screening units have been completed at the hospital. The dialysis units have three units of machines that were commissioned by the directorate of medical services last month and have been set up in the new building.

“The emergency unit is already functional, while modular flooring of the new blocks has been completed. The equipment and furniture for the new building is being set up in the radiology, modular hybrid operating theatre and other intensive care wards. The facilities will be completed within a fortnight and are likely to be functional by this month end,” said Dr P Vasanthamani, the dean of Kilpauk Medical College.

The burns ward at the hospital is also being upgraded as part of the project and includes advanced screening equipment, ICU, operation theatre and a passage connecting the adjacent new building. The burns ward would have air-conditioned individual cabins for the victims to lower the risk of hospital-acquired infections among the patients.

The hospital would also maintain a registry of burn victims and the registry would be maintained using anautomated system at the cost of Rs 13 lakh.
