Woman run over by MTC bus, loses one leg
A 68-year-old woman escaped death but her leg had to be amputated after being run over by an MTC bus on Perambur Barracks Road on Wednesday.

The incident where she was hit and run over by the bus (29 C) was caught on CCTV camera and went viral on social media, after which the police arrested the driver.
The woman was identified as Vatshala of Purasaiwalkam, who met with the accident when she went to buy groceries. The police said that doctors had amputated one of her legs and she has been treated for her injuries on her hands.
The bus was plying from Anna Square to Perambur when it stopped near Vadamalai Street on Perambur Barracks Road. Without noticing the woman crossing the road, the driver accelerated the vehicle, knocking her down. She was caught under the front wheel of the bus.
Onlookers came to the rescue of the woman even as the driver did not realise what was happening. After people started shouting, he moved the bus further so that the woman could be pulled out. She was rushed to the hospital in an ‘108’ ambulance.
Anna Square traffic enforcement wing team rushed to the spot and after conducting inquiry, they arrested bus driverHaridoss under the IPC Sections 337 and 279 (causing injury by rash and negligent driving).
