Foreign cigarettes worth Rs 4 L seized

Based on a tip-off, the police raided a house at Telugu Colony and seized the bundles of cigarettes. Four men, Aravind (57), Ravi (47), Karnan (23) and Ramesh (27), were arrested and investigation revealed the gang smuggled in the cigarettes from China and Myanmar and to sell it in Burma Bazaar. The gang was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.

In another incident, the TP Chathiram police secured nine persons on the charges of gambling and seized seven mobile phones and Rs 47,290 from them. Based on a tip-off, police raided a house in their jurisdiction and arrested K Jayanthi (34), M Kanagavalli (52) and seven other men. Later, they were released on own bail, said the police.
